In addition to new levels, Sony as part of its June State of Play announced a new limited-edition Astro Bot DualSense controller, one with a slightly different expression from a previous Astro Bot controller.
There are shocking deep cuts here from every corner of PlayStation’s history, including its indie partners. If you have a seminal PS1 game in your mind or a semi-obscure PS2 horror game, there’s a good chance it’s represented here. Aside from a lack of Final Fantasy representation, Astro Bot pays its respects to several generations of formative games. A handful of excellent stages even go one step further by paying tribute to some key games themselves — expect gaming history nerds to go positively feral over them. What elevates that beyond a bit of throwback nostalgia is that developer Team Asobi may be the most skilled studio working today when it comes down to game feel.
It really shows what the DualSense can do like no other game before it. The image quality is superb, showing off the vibrant and detailed worlds wonderfully. While it doesn’t have the graphical heft of other first-party titles, it’s incredibly visually pleasing thanks to clean, consistent art direction. On top of that is silky smooth 60 frames-per-second performance, with not one hitch spotted in all our time playing. Oh, and special mention must be made for the soundtrack, which is just excellent throughout. Astro Bot also manages to find the right balance of difficulty.
The Puzzle Pieces are needed to unlock new areas in the Crash Site hub area. The 10 Wormholes unlock 10 Secret Levels in the ‘Lost Galaxy’. After finishing all 10 Secret Levels you unlock the 11th Secret Level. Astro Bot is beautiful, and not just in a cartoony kind of way.

In Team ASOBI’s first true opportunity at creating an AAA game, it is safe to say, they knocked it out of the park. Once you’ve hit every piece of the edge, the disco ball will appear. Take the secret exit to unlock the Danger Dojo level in the Lost Galaxy. Take out the enemy and use the secret exit to unlock the Furnace Fever level.
Meant to mimic a dolphin-like dive ability, the controls used for this one never feel as intuitive as those for other abilities. In this level, I found it unusually tricky, albeit not exactly difficult, to collect all the secrets. It was manageable, but if any secret levels–which tend to be some of the game’s hardest–also use this mechanic, I expect them to become some of the game’s few frustrations. Like its predecessor, Astro Bot is a love letter to PlayStation–not just its current make-up, either, but its illustrious history.
These levels feel so Nintendo-like because they get everything out of their ideas. If you’re small but you can become big, can you blow stuff up from inside? Astro Bot is a platformer that genuinely thinks like the best platformers out there. It anticipates the things that you will anticipate, and then goes one better. There are jokes about tech demo ducks in here, then, but there’s also the sense the whole thing is, on some level, a huge tech demo.
Astro Bot is quite literally this year’s best game yet, and it being a single-player platformer makes it all the more special. It checks all the boxes of being a complete package with its visuals, story, value, audio design, and most importantly, gameplay. The game is worth every dollar that it costs, and everyone that owns a PS5 should look to try this game out. Hopefully this game convinces Sony to revive their older IPs and even look to create more amazing single player experiences such as this. Astro Bot is an action and platformer game for the PlayStation 5 which features Astro. Jump on your Dual Speeder and explore tons of planets, and meet up with iconic PlayStation characters across the game.

This collection served as a way to showcase the PlayStation Camera and DualShock 4 capabilities. Three years later, the idea would be expanded with The Playroom VR, which did the exact same thing for the PSVR. AF88 seemed to love it so much that it warranted a fully-fledged game, so Team Asobi did just that in 2018. Players will be able to find a Puzzle Piece floating around in space in the Tentacle System, Serpent Starway, Camo Cosmos, and Feather Cluster galaxies.
The bird costs 200 coins, so players have to give up some gacha pulls to use it, but it’s a great way to keep players from getting stuck. Astro Bot Rescue Mission is a 2018 virtual reality platform game developed and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4’s PlayStation VR headset. It stars a cast of robot characters first introduced in The Playroom and The Playroom VR.
Every stage is crafted with intent, as nothing feels out of place. Even with the levels’ linear design, gamers will want to explore every square inch to discover fun secrets hiding in just about every corner. Team Asobi brought their signature flair to the mix by making Astro Bot’s levels and platforming stand out.

Use the ladybug to reach where the seal used to be and use your charged melee to dig into the pillar. In this Astro Bot guide, we’ll walk you through how to find all secret exits and how to unlock the 11th secret level in the Lost Galaxy. @AhmadSumadi We were waiting for the price of this 1 to come down as well, $50 or $60, whatever it was, seemed like way too much for us for a 12 hour game. Fortunately it was on sale for $40 most places this past Black Friday – I’m in the US – and it was basically the only thing on my kids gift list.
But maybe the PlayStation didn’t need an answer to Nintendo and Sega’s beloved mascots. Games were entering an era in which more realistic human characters like Cloud Strife, Solid Snake and Lara Croft were becoming the new industry icons. As this more mature stream of gaming culture evolved, cutesy mascot characters and the 3D platformers they called home became less and less common. When Microsoft entered the industry with the Xbox in 2001, Halo’s Master Chief instantly shaped the console’s image.
